Back From Beyond

Day; 120. Incredibly beautiful early summer day! Temperature on outside kiln; 75

Back home after 3 days on the river, plus one day to rest and recuperate. Ahhhh  New Mexico, sometimes I love ya and sometimes not so much, but this weekend I was absolutely enchanted.  I can see why the Feds have designated the Chama River as a Wild and Scenic River, no other humans were even seen until the end  of the third day. We had the entire river and red rock canyon to outselves! Where else in the world does that happen?

For 3 days straight all I did was bob up and down on a raft as my dear husband rowed our's and everyone else's gear, down the river. There was one other gear boat  for our expedition  and 5 rubber Duckies. As Dave had been down the river a dozen times or so, and some of the duckie paddlers were novices, we took the lead and most often had a trail of ducklings behind us;

The current was swift what with all the late-spring snow and rain so that often we were pulled along without much effort. There were many small rapid fields to maneuver  and a few Class III rapids on the last day. Thrilling but  not really scary, not like the Taos box, thank God!
 Our home for the trip looked like this;

No wildlife (bears, mountain lions, etc... ) were  spotted other than the 5 paddlers...

Big Mama, our gear boat, looked like this;

What an incredible way to travel! I can't wait for the next river trip...!.
Stay tuned for part 2 and more pics tomorrow....
